A Five-Day Journey into Ancestral Healing Through Ancient Maya Wisdom, Spirituality & Living Traditions

November 2 - November 6, 2026

Some of the patterns we carry began long before we were born. Think about the way your family handles money, love, anger, goodbyes. Think about the silence at the dinner table, the fear that came from nowhere, the strength you can’t explain. The thing you swore you’d never do, and then did anyway.

None of it started with you.

It was handed down quietly, one generation to the next, like a heavy bag nobody ever opened. Your grandmother carried it, her mother carried it before her. And one day, without a word, it landed in your arms. So you keep carrying it, and you don’t even know what’s inside.

For five days, we’re going to open the bag together. We have the ability to examine what has been passed down to us, honor what deserves to be preserved, and begin changing what we no longer wish to carry forward. For 5-Days, we invite you to explore this extraordinary relationship between past, present, and future through the Maya Geo-Cosmovision, the sacred Cholq'ij calendar, guided ancestral practices, and a traditional Maya fire ceremony led by an Ajq'ij (Maya spiritual leader).

THE TRUTH ABOUT WHERE YOU COME FROM

In the Maya world, you were never a separate, self-made individual. You are a branch on a very old tree, and the roots go deeper than anyone could count.

Those who came before you are not gone. Their stories, their wounds, their prayers, and their love are still alive in you.

That is not a burden. It is a power, and most people never learn to use it.

Some of what you carry is gold. Resilience, wisdom, humor, a stubborn kind of love that survived things you may never fully know about.

Some of it is weight, patterns that keep repeating, fears that aren’t even yours.

The question is not whether you inherited something. The question is: do you know what, and what will you do with it?

Who this is for

Five Days, One Thread Back to Everyone Who Came Before You.

You didn’t start with you.
Your grandmother’s silence, your father’s temper, the way your family handles money, love, and goodbyes. None of it appeared out of nowhere. It was handed down, and nobody ever told you.

For five days, we’re going to open the bag and look inside.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This challenge is for you if:

  • You keep living out patterns you swore you’d break
  • You feel a pull toward your roots, but don’t know where to begin
  • You’ve lost someone and wish you still had a way to stay close to them
  • You’re a parent, or want to be, and you’re asking what you will pass on
  • You come from a family that doesn’t talk about the past
  • You’re drawn to Maya wisdom and want to learn it from people who live it, not from a book
  • You feel like you’re meant to be the one who changes things

You don’t need to be Maya, you don’t need any experience, you only need to come with an open heart.

  • Day 1 (nov 2nd)

    The Ancestral Inheritance

    What lives within us?

We start where all healing starts: by looking honestly at what you were given.

You’ll learn to see the gifts, patterns, and responsibilities that came down your family line. Then you’ll decide what you want to honor and what you’re ready to transform.

Today’s exercise: “What If I Chose My Family?”

Imagine you chose your own family before you were born. Why did you choose your mother? Why your father? Why this story?

Many people discover something unexpected when they answer. Rage becomes understanding, distance becomes a lesson, sometimes it only becomes a question, and that is where the work begins.

  • day 2 (nov 3rd)

    the hero twins

    Descending into Xib’alb’a

Long before any of us were born, two siblings walked into the underworld. In the Popol Wuj, Junajpu and Xb'alamke descend into Xib’alb’a, the place of trials, to face what had defeated their own parents before them. We’ll explore this story, one of the greatest in all of Maya tradition, together.

We’ll also look at how many people today read it as a story of ancestral healing: facing what came before us so those who come after us don’t have to. We’ll offer this as one contemporary way of understanding how both previous and future generations heal when we heal, and we’ll hold the story with the respect it deserves.

You’ll leave asking yourself: what is my Xib’alb’a, and what am I ready to face?

  • day 3 (nov 4th)

kame I the day of the dead

    Death, ancestry, and transformation

On the day of Kame in the Cholq’ij, the sacred Maya calendar, we turn toward the ancestors.

Guided by the teachings of the Ajq’ijab’ we work with, you’ll explore what Kame means: death, ancestral presence, and transformation. You’ll learn that in the Maya view, death is not the end of the relationship but a change in how it lives.

You may find that someone you thought you had lost has been closer than you realized.

  • day 4 (nov 5th)

    the ancestors altar

    Creating a place of remembrance

Today, we build! Together, and guided by the appropriate traditions and teachings, you’ll create an ancestors altar in your own home. A place to remember, a place to give thanks, a place that keeps the door open between you and the ones who came before.

It doesn’t need to be fancy. It needs to be yours, and it needs to be real. Tonight your home becomes a place of remembrance, and you are ready for tomorrow.

  • day 5 (nov 6th)

    Maya fire ceremony

    The Ancestral Fire

This is what we’ve been walking toward.

You’ll join a LIVE Maya fire ceremony, guided by an Ajq’ij (Maya spiritual leader) in Guatemala. Everything you’ve learned, felt, and discovered over four days becomes an offering.

This is a living ceremony, practiced for generations, and you’ll be inside it. A way to honor the ancestors that the Maya have used for thousands of years!

You’ll bring your gratitude, your grief, your intentions, and your names. And you’ll give them to the fire.

  • and that's not all!

The five days are the heart of it. But you won’t walk this path alone, and you won’t walk it once and lose it.

📄 PDFs and written guides for every exercise.
Every reflection we do together will come as a beautiful, printable PDF. Write in it, return to it, and keep it somewhere safe.

🎥 Lifetime access to the recordings.
Missed a session? Everything is yours to come back to, whenever your heart calls you back.

🤝 A private community of fellow participants.
You’ll be surrounded by people on the same journey. Share what comes up, honor each other’s stories, and feel what it is to be held by a circle.

💬 Moderators who answer your questions, even outside of class.
Healing doesn’t wait for the live session to end. Questions will come to you, and our moderators will be there to guide you, so you’re never left wondering alone.

Because this work doesn’t end when the five days do. We want you supported long after the fire has burned down to embers.

Why us

This Isn't Just Something We Teach, It's a Tradition We Approach With Deep Respect.

This isn’t a course from someone who read about Maya spirituality online. The Mayan Wisdom Project was born from a profound love for this geo-cosmovision and a desire to preserve ancient wisdom.

I'm Solveig Barrios, founder of The Mayan Wisdom Project. My own understanding of ancestry, healing, and the wisdom we inherit has been deeply influenced by my father's teachings and by the questions that have shaped my own spiritual journey. But sharing Maya wisdom also comes with a responsibility: to honor the people who have preserved it, to listen to those who carry it, and to approach their traditions with the respect they deserve.

That is why our work is rooted in relationships with Maya teachers, spiritual leaders, and knowledge keepers in Guatemala. Through these relationships, we seek to create meaningful opportunities for people to learn about Maya cosmology, spirituality, and living traditions directly from those who continue to practice and transmit this knowledge.

For the Ancestors Healing Challenge, we are honored to bring these teachings together with guided reflections, ancestral practices, and a traditional Maya fire ceremony led by an Ajq'ij in Guatemala. Our intention is to to create a space where it can be shared with care, integrity, and reverence for the people who carry it.

We believe that ancient wisdom deserves more than our curiosity. It deserves our respect, our willingness to listen, and our commitment to honoring its living roots.
