100% ceremonial cacao paste from Cahabón, Guatemala
WE ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT SMALL, LOCAL, FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES IN GUATEMALA & CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
Our Cahabón cacao is truly special, crafted by an incredible family with an inspiring story. After fleeing one of the most dangerous areas in Guatemala City, this brave family found safety and stability in the small town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes, near Antigua.
Despite facing tremendous challenges, they worked diligently to establish a 100% organic and biodiverse cacao production facility, sourcing their exceptional cacao from the lush jungles of northern Guatemala, specifically in the Cahabón region. Each batch of Cahabón cacao is made entirely by hand, with the exception of a stone grinder—a simple machine used to grind the beans into a rich and luxurious paste. This method preserves quality while allowing us to offer cacao at more accessible price points.
Their meticulous process ensures that every aspect of production is performed with intention and care. We are deeply grateful to support this wonderful family operation and to create job opportunities in communities in need.
The Unique Characteristics of Fifth Element Cahabón Cacao
Fifth Element Cahabón cacao presents a flavor profile that includes noticeable bitterness akin to black coffee, adding an interesting aspect to its taste. The lower oil content (compared to Fifth Element Lanquin) allows the cacao to present clearly, with oil rising to the top when poured but not accumulating significantly. In terms of handling, Cahabon cacao breaks into flakes and exhibits more resistance during cutting, reflecting its drier texture.
However, it is important to note that with cacao made like this, each batch is different. It is the nature of a natural, handmade product.
WHAT MAKES FIFTH ELEMENT CACAO CAHABÓN SO SPECIAL?
-
High-Quality Cacao

-
A traditional process
Each step of the process, including sun drying, roasting, peeling is performed by hand, and the grinding carried out by a simple electric machine.
-
HONORING CACAO
According to the sacred Popol Wuj, the holy book of the Maya, it is important to express gratitude and cleanse all utensils, ensure personal purification, and seek permission from the energies before engaging with the cacao.
-
100% CERTIFIED ORGANIC
We take pride in offering cacao that is 100% certified organic and free from any additives. Our cacao is packaged in environmentally friendly materials, including a beautifully handwoven bag.

Biodiverse farming
The cacao sourced in Cahabon used in this paste is grown using regenerative and biodiverse farming practices that prioritize the health of the soil, wildlife, and ecosystem.
-
WAY BEYOND FAIRTRADE
The cacao farmers and producers we work with set their own prices, and receive way more than the fair trade rate, which would still be exploitative.

HOW TO PREPARE A CUP OF CACAO
We recommend melting your cacao with a small amount of hot water (not boiling) and mixing it well until it becomes liquid.
Once it is well combined, top it up with enough hot water to fill your cup. Mixing is best with a wooden spoon or a molinillo.
For a more authentic experience, consider drinking it from our traditional Mayan Cacao Drinking Cup.
