WE ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT SMALL, LOCAL, FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES IN GUATEMALA & CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH WITHIN THIER COMMUNITIES.
Our Cahabón cacao is truly special, made by an incredible family with a touching story.
After fleeing one of the most dangerous zones within Guatemala City, this brave family found safety & stability in a small town near Antigua.
After overcoming tremendous challenges and adversity, they worked hard to establish a 100% organic & bio-diverse cacao production facility, sourcing their very special cacao from the lush jungles of northern Guatemala - in the region of Cahabón.
Their cacao is made with a deep love and commitment to quality and traditional practices.
Cahabón cacao is made completely by hand with one exception of a stone grinder. A simple machine used to grind the beans into a rich and luxurious paste. Quality is maintained whilst enabling us to offer cacao at reduced price points, making it more accessible to more people!
Their process is one that takes great care to ensure that every aspect of production is carried out with intention and love.
We are so grateful to be able to support this wonderful family operation and create more jobs for communities in need.
HOW TO PREPARE A CUP OF CACAO
We recommend melting your cacao with a small amount of hot water (not boiling) and mixing it well until it becomes liquid.
Once it is well combined, top it up with enough hot water to fill your cup. Mixing is best with a wooden spoon or a molinillo.
For a more authentic experience, consider drinking it from our traditional Mayan Cacao Drinking Cup.
WHAT MAKES FIFTH ELEMENT CACAO CAHABÓN SO SPECIAL?
- High-Quality Cacao - This cacao comes from the region of Cahabón, Guatemala and it’s made from the highest quality beans, known as Criollo.
- Only One Machine Used - Each step of the process, including sun drying, roasting, peeling is performed by hand, and the grinding carried out by a simple electric machine.
- Way Beyond Fair Trade - Our cacao farmers and producers set their own prices, and receive way more than the fair trade rate, which would still be exploitative
- Authentic Mayan Tradition - The Cacao collectives we work with are rooted in authentic Mayan traditions and values, preserving a rich cultural heritage that has been passed down for centuries.
- Biodiverse Farming - The cacao used in this paste is grown using regenerative and biodiverse farming practices that prioritize the health of the soil, wildlife, and ecosystem
- Organic - All of our cacao is proudly 100% certified organic.
